Q: I am a total beginner, which classes should I attend?

A: You may come to any of our Mysore class from Mon to Fri.

Q: Do I need to know anything about yoga or have memorized the Ashtanga sequence before I begin?

A: No. On your first day, the teacher will explain the basics you need to know. You will be taught a short sequence and you will repeat it a few times to familiarise yourself with the flow. You will be given more poses to learn when the teacher sees you’re ready. No prior yoga experience necessary.

Q: What’s the difference between Mysore and a regular yoga group classes in other studios (i.e. Vinyasa or Power Yoga class)?

A: In most yoga classes, the teacher leads students through poses as a group. Everyone is expected to move and breathe at the pace dictated by the teacher. In a Mysore class, students will be taught individually and will be moving at their own pace. The Mysore-style Ashtanga is akin to taking a private lesson but in a group setting. Please read What is Ashtanga? Mysore? for a better understanding of the method.

Q: Are the classes 2 hours long? or 1 hours long?

A: No. Each practice is individual. First timers will practice for 30-45minutes, while other students may practice for almost 90 minutes. Students are invited to come begin their practice any time in the window that the shala is open. That might be as early 7:00 AM  for morning classes). For evening classes, students may come as early as 18:00 or as late as 19:00.

Q: What are the advantages of learning Ashtanga Mysore Style over another class style?

A: Here are some of the advantages of a Mysore Style class:

Mysore style will help you build your own personal practice.

Every day you work on a set sequence. The familiarity of the sequence makes the practice a moving meditation. The repetition of series allows you to track personal growth over time.

Working with the same teacher builds strong student-teacher relationship. This will allow the teacher to provide the specific needs of each student, highly individualised assists or modifications, if needed.

You have more flexibility to make it to class since Mysore class schedule allows you to come any time within the allotted time.

Q: What do I wear and what do I need to bring?

A: Wear comfortable and breathable clothing, nothing too loose or too tight as it will restrict your movements.

Q: I have an injury, can I join the classes?

A: It depends on the injury. If it restricts you from moving too much, some poses can be modified to suit your needs. But to be sure, send us a message. Click here for our contact details.

Q: I am pregnant, can I join the classes?

A: Yes but only if you have a regular Ashtanga practice before pregnancy (at least 6 monts of 3x a week or more Ashtanga practice) and has been cleared by your doctor.
